Think Before Your React

How Many of you have seen this post or one similar to it on one social media site or another? How many of you have, if only for a brief moment, thought about this? How many of you read it and shared it without giving any thought to its credibility? I for one will admit that although I did not repost it, I did, however, reshare this information verbally with my wife! After, thinking to myself how incredulous it sounded, I and took a moment to fact check this information only to find that it is false.

I know that it will come as no surprise that a vast portion of any information we are fed on the internet, and especially social media is very loosely based on fact and always more likely than not twisted or skewed to fit an individual's agenda. Truthfully even the post you will read here will have been written with some form of a goal in mind. There is nothing wrong with that in principle unless there is something wrong with the principles.

It is our job as the reader or in a case of an election, to ferret out the truth, and not just the truth of the article but the truth of the intent. What is driving the author, what does he, she or they intend to accomplish by producing any form of media for us to devour? In this day and age of citizen journalism, the internet is bursting with I wide variety of stories about just about anyone and anything, ranging from the downright annoying to the unbelievably scandalous. With little to no actual oversite on a lot of these articles out there, it is your job; it is my job to find the truth out there. It is our duty to find the facts of the matter BEFORE we choose to repost or spread what can either be truth or more vitriol! But, hey don't just take my word for it. Maybe Mexico does have a wall. Go on now, Do your job.
